Best Printer for Labels – Reviews 2017

More and more people are opening their own stores and dabbling in online marketing. One of the very first things your business will need is a quality label printer. Not only will it save you hours each day, but it will save you money too. You’ll use significantly less ink and paper with a quality machine. Whether you plan on selling a few products on the weekends or creating a shipping empire, you’ll want the best printer for labels with you.

1. DYMO LabelWriter 4XL

The DYMO LabelWriter 4XL is the perfect option for individuals and small businesses looking to get ahead. DYMO is a big name brand with a versatile product range. They stand by their products and have excellent customer service and fair prices. This thermal label printer gets the job done fast and efficiently.

The 4XL uses a wide-format ideal for labeling for shipping and warehousing. Capable of printing up to 53 standard 4-line address labels per minute! Since it’s a high quality thermal, you’ll save a load of money on ink and toner at the end of the year. Not to mention no messy or blurred text. Your barcodes will come out crystal clear every, single, time. Barcoding and postage have never been this fast or easy.

It’s entirely compatible with a variety of traditional online selling platforms and shipping providers. Capable of printing international labels as well as domestic. It also comes with the DYMO software which has over 60 different layouts so you can easily customize and add your logo. This has no additional charge, reoccurring or otherwise.

The only issue we found is the lack of wireless capabilities. Most label printers under $200 will be wired. If you’re looking for wireless, expect to pay upwards of $350 if you want something that works well at the same time.

2. Zebra Zp 450

The Zebra Zp 450 is the ultimate in compact and unobtrusive printing. It also excels specifically at printing UPS and FedEx shipping labels and integrates well with their software. Zebra is well known in the shipping industry as one of leading brands for small business.

Similar to the DYMO, it also uses thermal to print the labels. It’s capable of printing around 45-50 labels per minute. Each one looking just as crisp as the previous. Once you receive it, just plug it into your computer, install the device software and drivers, and get ready to make some money.

The only downside is rather small. When it first boots up and begins to work, it uses a few sheets to calibrate length correctly. This ends up being a very low cost in wasted label sheets.

3. Brother QL-570 Professional

The Brother QL-570 is another great option. However, I’d like to state right away that this printer doesn’t work well printing directly from It’s fine for other sites such as Ebay and Paypal. The layout just won’t work well with certain sites.

If you can get past its obvious flaws, this is a great little printer. It’s less expensive than the others and prints incredibly quickly. The rolls are inexpensive and print flawlessly every time.

4. DYMO LabelWriter 450 Turbo

The DYMO is so great that it has two products that make the top 5 list! It’s not much different than the previous. However, the labels don’t use the wide format and it prints a bit faster. Roughly 70 labels per minute making it one of the fastest on the market.

5. Primera LX 500 Color Label Printer

This is our review of a color label printer. They are an entirely different ballgame than monochrome or thermal. They cost more, not only directly but also indirectly. Ink alone will cost a small fortune.

The Primera is a high impact color printer perfect for small and large businesses. It prints in an incredible and brilliant looking 4800 DPI. The results look perfect and professional each time. It’s easy to use, fast, and reliable. If you have the money, this is the best of the best.

What To Look For In The Best Printer For Labels

These are the most important things to consider before making a purchase. Ensure that you have an understanding of what you need. For example, if you’re shipping out 20 items a day, you’re going to need a much less expensive printer than someone shipping out 200 items a day.

The rate at which your printer prints is essential when making a purchase decision. If you’re running a small operation where you seldom use the printer, a slower or older model may suffice. However, if your operation is mid-sized or even large, you’ll want something that will consistently and quickly print out high-quality labels. Either for shipping or just for correctly labeling your products.

Cheap knockoff label printers from China won’t last for even 1000 prints. Even those first 1000 will likely be blurred or uneven. This makes it difficult for customers to read your labels, and can even prevent shipping services from reading addresses. Furthermore, you’ll end up having to replace the printer with a more expensive one in just weeks or months.

A good label printer should last for hundreds of thousands of prints, at least. With proper maintenance and care, you can even see returns on millions of shipping labels.

Cost of Accessories

There is a hidden cost that many companies don’t want you to know. Imagine this; you find this perfect little printer that is fast and runs great. The price is more than reasonable, and it seems like a dream come true. However, what they don’t tell you is this. You must use their label rolls which cost 1000% markup. On top of that, you also need to use their software which has a monthly service fee. This is an unfortunate but realistic part of the industry. Make sure you read the fine print before committing to purchase.

Compatibility With Software

Label printers need computer software to be able to print properly. There are plenty of different software out there. The few the first come to mind are Ebay,, USPS, and Paypal. If you truly want the best shipping label printer, it must be compatible with these popular websites software. If the company uses proprietary software and won’t allow you to migrate to others, it’s probably best to avoid that printer.

This is more of an optional feature. However, wireless label printers are very convenient and help to keep the clutter down and walkways free of tripping hazards.

Final Thoughts

Remember, you’ve already passed the hardest test. Starting your project or business, don’t get too bogged down in the details of the best label printers. Do a bit of research and make an informed decision. Take action and success will come your way.
